Families
Settlement programs for families consist of community-based initiatives that help immigrant and refugee families adjust to life in a new country. These programs provide various services to support families in integrating into their new communities, understanding the education system, providing language services, and accessing necessary resources.
Youth
Our youth programs provide a range of services, including language training, education support, volunteering opportunities, youth support groups, employment assistance, and social integration activities. We have a variety of summer programs that educate the youth on the Canadian high school system and pathways after high school.
Women
Our settlement programs specifically for women often address unique challenges related to immigration, integration, and empowerment. These programs can provide a wide range of services tailored to women’s needs, including language training, employment assistance, a women’s wellness cafe, health services, and support for families.
Seniors
The senior programs aim to help seniors integrate into their new communities, maintain their independence, and improve their overall quality of life. Newcomer seniors can participate in mindfulness activities, art workshops, and and field trips to Toronto Parks, and learn about the many resources and services that are available to them.
Mental Health
Our wellness and mental health programs are there to support newcomers as they navigate the challenges of adjusting to a new country. These programs are designed to address the specific mental health needs of immigrants and refugees, providing culturally sensitive support and resources. These programs address the emotional and physical well-being of newcomers.
March Break Fun
The March break camp is a great opportunity for newcomer students to learn and interact with peers. Students will learn about Digital storytelling, Video editing, Photography, Audio recording, and script-writing. They will also go on field trips around Toronto and learn about Canadian culture.
Summer Programs
We have a variety of summer programs, such as the summer enrichment programs, the Newcomer Orientation Week, and the Welcome and Information for Newcomers program. These programs are tailored to help newcomers integrate into their new communities. These programs typically focus on language skills, cultural orientation, social integration, introducing the Canadian education system, and recreational activities for children, youth, adults, and seniors.
NOW/WIN Programs
NOW (Newcomer Orientation Week) and WIN (Welcome Information for Newcomers) programs are engaging and interactive high school readiness initiatives designed for newcomer students. Through peer leaders, students receive valuable information and support to ensure a strong and confident start to their school journey.
Volunteering
SWIS offers a range of volunteer opportunities for newcomers and community members who want to contribute to the integration and support of immigrants and refugees. Some of the Youth Volunteer opportunities are our Youth Mural art projects and the peer leader positions for the NOW program Volunteering can provide valuable experience, help build social networks, and foster a sense of community.
